Certified UV Protection

95%UV protection
Up to 50°Ctemperature reduction
10+ yearsuseful life

Our technical fabrics block up to 95% of UV rays, significantly reducing the temperature beneath the sail. Made from high-tenacity materials resistant to tearing and weathering.

Triangular or rectangular?

Triangular

Modern, dynamic aesthetic. Ideal for irregular zones, pools, and gardens with existing elements that constrain the layout. Groups of triangles cover larger areas with visual interest.

Rectangular / square

More shade area per square metre and simpler anchoring. Perfect for regular terraces, barbecue zones and outdoor dining. Tensioning is more uniform and there is less movement in wind.

Wind limits on the Costa Blanca

Shade sails aren't designed to withstand storms. Our installations tolerate sustained gusts of up to 40–50 km/h without fabric deformation or excess tension on the anchors. When a strong levante is forecast we recommend taking the sail down in 10 minutes using the stainless-steel carabiner system we include as standard. In particularly exposed zones (seafront Punta Prima, Santa Pola) we recommend considering a fixed pergola instead.

Installation process

1. Measurement and design

On-site visit. We measure available anchor points, analyse solar orientation and design the sail (or cluster of sails) to fit your case.

2. Made-to-measure manufacture

HDPE fabric or PVC-coated polyester, cut and sewn in-workshop. Reinforced corners with stainless-steel hardware. Typical lead time: 2–3 weeks.

3. Anchors

We install galvanised-steel posts (when no wall is available) or chemical wall fixings. Quick-release carabiners for seasonal take-down if you prefer.

4. Tensioning

On-site tensioning with adjustable tensioners to compensate for initial fabric settlement. 30-day tension recheck included in the warranty.

Frequently Asked Questions

The price of a custom shade sail in Alicante ranges from €200 to €1,500 depending on the size, material (HDPE or PVC-coated polyester) and the anchoring system. Triangular sails are more affordable than rectangular or custom-shaped options.

It depends on the intended use. HDPE (high-density polyethylene) is breathable, making it ideal for pool areas as it allows airflow while blocking up to 95% of UV rays. PVC-coated polyester is waterproof and also protects from rain, making it perfect for outdoor dining areas.

It depends on the material. HDPE sails are permeable and only protect from the sun, not rain. PVC-coated polyester sails are waterproof and do protect from rain. It is important that the sail has a minimum slope of 20% so that water drains properly.

Sails can be anchored to steel posts, wall plates, sturdy trees or existing structures. The key requirement is that the anchor points can withstand the necessary tension. At Optim Toldos we carry out a site survey to determine the best configuration.

A quality shade sail with UV-stabilised fabric has a useful life of 10 to 15 years. We recommend taking it down in winter if not in use to extend its life, although many of our clients in Alicante keep them up all year without any issues.

Yes, one of the most common uses. We anchor to fixed points in walls, pergolas or independent posts, leaving clearance for water and airflow. Breathable HDPE fabric is preferable here because it doesn't trap heat under the shade.

Up to moderate gusts (40–50 km/h) properly tensioned sails cope without issue. For stronger storms we recommend removing the sail in 10 minutes using the stainless-steel quick-release carabiner system we install. Wind sensors don't apply to shade sails (not motorised).
